In this project, we try to put forward a novel type of U-shaped SMA damper, which is able to convert shear deformation of the structure into bending deformation of the damper. My duty was to investigate the internal force diagrams under tangential displacement. My approach was to firstly derive the equations using the force method and then to build up a SAP2000 model and to compare the results. After verifying the results, I passed the expressions by for further design and simulation.
